Rachel Chiu, MS, LMFT (she/her)
I am a bilingual (Spanish-speaking) marriage and family therapist (SC LMFT license no. 6974) who hails from Chapel Hill, NC and graduated cum laude from Elon University with a double major in Spanish and Psychology in 2006. In 2011 I returned to school to earn my Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy from East Carolina University (a COAMFTE accredited program).
During my Master’s program, I received extensive and rigorous training in couples’, marriage, and family therapy (think: lots of live supervision, almost 500 hours spent with couples and families, and an average of 3 hours of supervision per week! It’s exhausting to even think about it.) and I also completed practicums with a focus on bilingual, integrated care. If that wasn’t enough, I graduated with honors from my program in 2013 and since then I have gone on to work in both private and state-run agencies serving couples, families, and individuals.
My specialties include: couples’ and marriage counseling, working with persons who have depression and/or anxiety, women’s concerns, and Hispanic/Spanish-speaking clients. Moreover, I consider myself an affirming provider and I gladly welcome clients who identify as LGBTQIA+. I also offer post-graduate supervision to LMFT-As seeking to earn full licensure in the state of South Carolina as well as EFT supervision to any therapist wanting to learn more about EFT and/or who hope to become certified in the model. Click here to contact me to see if we’re a good fit for either supervision type.
Couple work is my PASSION, my JAM, the thing that makes me BOUNCE outta bed in the morning. I am so committed to serving my clients who are couples that I’ve gone on to get EXTRA TRAINING on top of what I learned in my program - and not just any training - but the most-researched, gold-standard approach to treating couples, “Emotionally Focused Therapy” (or, “EFT”, for short). I am an ICEEFT certified therapist and supervisor-in-training for this AMAZING model. Furthermore, I participate in regular peer consultation groups, group supervision, and individual supervision to make me better and better at what I love doing. When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, finding good eats, being outside, reading a good book, or traveling to new places. I’m a member of AAMFT, SCAMFT, ACEFT, ICEEFT, and Psychology Today.
